Malawi is a P4 pure sativa landrace originating from Malawi, Central Africa, considered by ACE Seeds to be the most powerful and psychedelic landrace sativa known. It produces dense, trichome-rich flowers with extraordinary potency, rivaling hybrid varieties in cannabinoid concentration. THC levels reach 24–27%, with 0.08% CBD and 0.4–1% CBG. The terpene profile includes very high β-myrcene, moderate limonene, very small β-pinene, and sesquiterpenes mainly composed of β-caryophyllene (¾ parts), with moderate α-humulene and small α-bisabolol. Structure is typical sativa: medium internode length, strong branching, and large resinous buds. Indoors it flowers in 10–13 weeks; outdoors, harvest occurs at the end of October to early November. It thrives in tropical and subtropical climates and also adapts well to warm Mediterranean conditions up to about 43° latitude. The cultivar shows average resistance to spider mites, average-low to mildew, average-high to botrytis and white fly, average-high to cold, and high to heat. Growers are advised to provide strong light intensity and enough space indoors, using a 12/12 photoperiod or optionally 11/13 for smaller spaces to promote faster bloom and control stretch. It performs well in SOG setups (main cola production) and SCROG, horizontal, or network training due to excellent lateral branch yield and strong response to pruning. Nutrient needs are moderate during growth (preferably low nitrogen) and moderate-high in flowering. When cultivated properly, yields are described as huge both indoors and outdoors. Genetic analyses identify Malawi as an extremely rare, unique genotype with moderate variability, closely related only to other Malawi strains and the hybrid Malawi × PCK. This cultivar is traditionally known within Malawi’s local cannabis heritage for its resin production and powerful psychoactive qualities, making it a cultural benchmark of African landrace sativas.
